The museum has a wide collection of objects of nature, history and culture of the peoples of Siberia. The archaeological collection contains more than 33,000 items, including bronze, iron, bone objects, stone products, ceramic vessels and much more. The museum houses the most unique collection of ancient bronze (about 30 thousand units). The Documentary Fund and Scientific Archive contain more than 30 thousand documents, printed publications, maps of the regions of Siberia and Russia, covering the period of the XIX-early XXI centuries. The extensive natural history collection includes zoological, botanical materials, as well as objects of paleontology, anthropology, and geology. The museum also presents collections of weapons, sculptures, paintings, objects of applied art and much more.

a scientist-botanist, the Minusinsk Regional Museum of Local lore was founded. This was an important event for the entire history of museum business in Siberia. First, it was the first museum of local lore on the territory of the Yenisei province. It also became the first museum in the Far East, which had a Program and Charter, in its likeness later created museums in many cities of Russia. The exhibits of the Minusinsk Regional Museum of Local lore were repeatedly shown at Russian and international exhibitions: the Siberian-Ural Scientific and Industrial Exhibition in Yekaterinburg, the World Exhibition in Chicago, the All-Russian Industrial and Art Exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod, the World Exhibition in Paris, etc. The museum's library has also become an important historical site. Founded in 1878, its collection includes more than 137 thousand publications, magazines and newspapers of the XIX-XX centuries.The library was visited not only by residents of Minusinsk, but also by many scientists of the country, and even by the Soviet politician and statesman, V. I. Lenin. Thanks to the tireless and long-term activity of N. M. Martyanov, Minusinsk and its museum became known all over the world. In the XX century, two more branches of the museum were opened. In the memorial house-museum "Apartment of G. M. Krzhizhanovsky and V. V. Starkov" visitors can learn about the life of exiled people, see the life of the inhabitants of Minusinsk of the XIX century. In 1997, the first and only Decembrist Museum in Siberia was also opened, which tells about the life and activities of participants in anti-government movements and uprisings of the XIX century.

In addition to exhibitions, the museum actively conducts events, is engaged in research activities and actively conducts international cooperation.
