Learn about the history of the famous science city, visit the house-museum of the poet Marina Tsvetaeva, the house-museum of the philosopher and priest Sergei Durylin, and see the old Kostino estate, where the leader of the revolution Vladimir Lenin resided for some time

Expositions

The Kostino Estate department is housed in three buildings of the late 19th to early 20th centuries. In one of the buildings of the estate, there is the museum of V.I. Lenin, opened in 1939. Visitors can see the rooms (with furnishings intact) in which the leader of the world revolution once resided. Since 2019, an exposition dedicated to the history of the estate and its owners has been open here. In the building of the former greenhouse there is an exhibition dedicated to the Bolshevsk labor commune, and in the exhibition hall of the former gardener's house there are changing exhibitions. In the manor you can see a unique grandfather clock made by craftsman Peter Torkler, who worked in his own workshop in London from 1780-1783. According to eyewitnesses, Lenin liked the watch very much. Previously, they had a music center with twelve tunes, one for every hour of the day. The memorial house-museum of Marina Tsvetaeva in Bolshevo will acquaint visitors with the life of the poet, who settled in this house on June 19, 1939, returning to the USSR after seventeen years of emigration, and lived there for five months. During that period, she did not write barely any poetry, doing translations instead. The Memorial House-Museum of S.N. Durylin was opened in the house where the writer and poet, theater critic, philosopher and priest Sergei Durylin lived from 1936 until his final days. Visitors can get acquainted with the author's replica of a fragment of the painting The Vision to the Youth Bartholomew, made especially for Durylin by Mikhail Nesterov as a token of gratitude for the cycle of works of the 1920s dedicated to his work: Dimitri Tsarevich Murdered, St. Sergius of Radonezh in the works of Nesterov and Holy Russia. The sketch shows the image of a youth against the background of a wooden church. The period of creation is 1929. The youngest section of the museum, The Newest History of the Town, details the contribution of residents to the development of defense and space technology. The exhibition presents the personal belongings of the Soviet designer of artillery systems V.G. Grabin and General Designer S.P. Korolev. The exhibits of the museum includes artillery pieces, cars of the Great Patriotic War, historical documents, posters, photographs and household items of the 1930-1940s. Visitors are amazed by the six-meter monumental panel, bearing the mural Industrialization by V. Maslov (1906-1938). This is a unique monument of the Soviet avant-garde and the only known and preserved item of this kind in the country.

History

The museum details the development of the town of Korolev, which is famous for its scientific achievements in the field of astronautics. On the territory of the technopolis there are many places of historical, architectural, artistic, scientific and memorial value, which are also included in the museum complex. In 2017, the association "Museums of Science City Korolev" was created. It includes two literary museums (memorial houses of M.I. Tsvetaeva and S.N. Durylin), Kostino Estate, and a section dedicated to the modern history of the town. Previously, in December 2016, in cooperation with the Russian State University of Tourism and Service, several educational tourist routes were developed to unite these museum sites or involve a visit to one of them. The three departments of the museum association are essentially memorial complexes, including monuments of history and culture with territories historically associated with them.

Interesting Facts

Near the House-Museum of Marina Tsvetaeva there is a public garden named after the poetess. Memorial stones are installed here, each of which connects visitors to Tsvetaeva's places of residence in Russia and abroad. And in memory of the suffering that befell her, the Tsvetaeva’s bonfire lights up annually on June 19 in Bolshev. On this day, the poems of the poetess are traditionally recited in the park. Tsvetaeva presented the unique blue quartz beads preserved in the house in Bolshev to Nina Gordon, a friend of her daughter Ariadna Efron, who later donated them to the future museum. The published memoirs of N.P. Gordon contain a mention of this gift. In 2017, the museum association launched a new project entitled Poems in Transport in Korolev to mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of Marina Tsvetaeva. Now the poems of the poetess can be heard on the town’s five transport routes.
