The Museum's collection includes about one million exhibits. Here are stored music and literary manuscripts of great value, rare musical publications, audio recordings. Visitors can also get acquainted with unique documents related to the life and work of famous composers, singers, and musicians – for example, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Chaliapin, Mozart, and Beethoven.
The fine arts Foundation is represented by masterpieces of outstanding Russian artists. Among them are paintings by Vrubel, Korovin, Serov and other artists.
The State collection of unique musical instruments of the Russian Federation, founded in 1919, is particularly interesting. It has 286 exhibits and is considered the world's largest public collection. Here you can see the instruments created in the period from the XVI to XX centuries by world-famous Italian masters, including Stradivari, Guarneri, Bergonzi, the Amati brothers. Three dozen of the items in the collection are recognized as the highest examples of the world's musical heritage.
On the website of the Museum there is an electronic library "Treasury of sacred music", where you can see old music collections – liturgical hymns, old Russian singing manuscripts, singing books related to the religion of the old believers, and even old Russian alphabets.

The Russian national Museum of music is one of the oldest and largest music museums in the world. Russian Russian Conservatory was founded in 1912 and throughout its history, at various times, it was named after the Russian pianist and conductor, the founder of the Moscow Conservatory Nikolai Rubinstein and the outstanding Russian composer Mikhail Glinka.
The Foundation for the future Museum was laid by the Moscow Conservatory, which, long before its formation, for many years, collected exhibits-manuscripts, handwritten notes and scores, as well as instruments of outstanding musicians and even their personal belongings. In 1912, under Nikolai Rubinstein, the Museum at the Conservatory displayed three unique violins by the great Italians Nicolo Amati, Antonio Stradivari and Santo Serafino, as well as a collection of folk musical instruments of Central Asia and Kazakhstan. The Museum's Fund was regularly replenished, and now it is huge.
From 1964 to 1980, the music Museum was located in the "Troekurov chambers" (an old building in Georgievsky lane), after which the institution was allocated a new building specially erected for it with a concert hall, in which even a German schuke organ was installed.

Staff provide guided tours and workshops for visitors. In addition, concerts of various musical genres, which are very popular with music lovers, are held here, subscription cycles, educational programs, interactive classes and holidays for children are prepared.
