Kuraginsky District Museum of Local Lore is three times unique. It was created by enthusiasts-lovers of the history of the native area, replenished with rarities found by old residents of Kuragino in the attics of houses, and now the only one of all the rural museums of the region has three branches.

Currently, the Museum is located in part of the building of the former trading house of the merchant, gold miner, philanthropist and philanthropist Nikolai Pashennykh. Today the Museum is a municipal budgetary institution with three branches: the local history Museum of the village of Berezovskoye, the Mining and geological Museum (p. G. T. B. Irba) and The Museum named after A.M. Koshurnikov (p. G. T. Koshurnikovo).

The Museum's collections contain more than 23 thousand items from all historical periods of Kuraginsky district development. These are collections of various types and properties. The Museum's collection contains archaeological finds discovered in the vicinity of the village of Poilovo during excavations in 1968. and random finds. The Museum also has collections of folk weaving, embroidery, and peasant items

Kuraginsky District Museum of Local Lore opened in September 1964 in the eight-year school of the village of Kuragino. Its founder, a history teacher Silaev Nikolai. Since 1949, Sharovatov A. G., the director-teachers of the Kuraginsky schools Zhibinov A. K., Buravinsky I. M. Came to work in the Kuraginsky eight-year school in 1962, Nikolai Vasilyevich joined the process of local history work, expanding the scope of activity and dreaming of creating a museum. The circles that worked at the school studied the history of their native village and the surrounding nature, accumulating many material monuments of former times, documentary and photographic materials reflecting the historical development of the area. The material was collected enough for the opening of the school museum, which is located in a small room and a corridor of the school. At the time of the opening, the exhibition was presented in three departments: historical, geographical and biological, the materials for which were used in the lessons-excursions. The school conducted scientific and educational work, created the society "Young Historian", the children corresponded, organized meetings with participants of the Great Patriotic War, the partisan movement, old residents of the village replenishing the museum funds with new items, documents, photos. Together with Chileev, they participated in archaeological excavations near the village of Poilovo, under the guidance of the famous archaeologist of the Minusinsk Museum, N. V. Leontiev.

The museum existed in an eight-year school until 1977. When the new school building was built and the secondary school No. 1 and the eight-year-old school merged, there was no place for the museum, many items were lost, and the most valuable items were transferred to the Minusinsk Museum named after N. M. Martyanov. There was no one who would have taken up the arrangement of the museum and defended the priceless funds placed in the basement of the school. For seven long years, the "People's Museum" experienced a difficult time of oblivion and inactivity.
Only in 1982, the museum resumed its activities thanks to Ivan Fedorovich Eskin. He began to seek the allocation of space for the museum in the school, funds from the administration of the village and the district for museum equipment, design of exhibition stands and other needs. The museum was being revived. At the time of opening on 3 December 1983, the total area of the Museum for an exposition was 110 sq m, with room for fontography, were issued to the following departments: "Archeology", "the Life of the inhabitants of p. Kuragino beginning of the 20th century", "History of public education and public health", "Agriculture" and "a Room of military glory".
The museum became a living history for the students, where lessons-excursions were held, and the children themselves acted as guides. Heads of enterprises, collective farms and state farms helped the museum with documentary material and exhibits.
In 1987, the district administration allocated two buildings with a total area of 500 square meters to the museum. Ivan Fedorovich Eskin managed the museum until 1990, giving it a second birth, and remained in the memory of the Kuragin residents as a successor to the case of N. V. Chileyev.
